Focus on the search

March 1st, 2007

One of the things that annoy me are sites that don’t put keyboard focus on the search field. For example, if you go to IMDB, do you really want to use the mouse to find the search field before you can start typing?

Greasemonkey to the rescue! I found this script, but it will put focus on the search field regardless of where on the page it is, i.e. the input field could be outside the viewport and the page will be scrolled down to it. That’s even more annoying than using your mouse!

So, click below to download a script that will only focus on the search field if it’s currently visible in the browser: Focus on the search.
